Understanding CrossFit Lingo: A Beginner’s Guide

WOD – Stands for “Workout of the Day”. This is the specific workout that you’ll be doing on a given day.
AMRAP – Stands for “As Many Rounds/Reps As Possible”. This means you’ll do as many rounds or reps of a specific exercise or set of exercises within a given time period.
EMOM – Stands for “Every Minute On the Minute”. This means you’ll start a specific exercise at the beginning of each minute, and rest for the remainder of that minute.
Box – This is the term used for a CrossFit gym.
Rx – This is short for “prescription”. When a workout is done as prescribed, it’s called “Rx”. It means you completed the workout without modifying any of the movements or weights.
Scaled – When you modify a workout to make it easier or more manageable, it’s called “scaled”. This is common for beginners or those with physical limitations.
PR – Stands for “Personal Record”. This is the best time or weight that you’ve achieved for a specific exercise.
